The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia invites applicants to apply for an Assistant Professor of Public Policy, General Faculty appointment. The selected applicant will teach courses as part of the Batten School's social entrepreneurship curriculum and may assume some program responsibilities in the school’s social entrepreneurship center (SE@UVA). The appointment begins in August 2020.
We seek candidates from a range of disciplines including political science, economics, entrepreneurship, law, business ethics, business administration, finance, or public administration. A terminal degree in one of these disciplines or a related field is required, as is previous teaching experience. The successful candidate's professional and/or research experience focuses on social entrepreneurship broadly defined, including but not limited to work on social enterprise, impact investing and innovative finance, or public policy related to social innovation (i.e. state-level BCorp legislation, social impact bonds, tax policy related to social enterprise, and innovative hybrid business models).
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in one or more of the following areas: professional experience within the social enterprise community, superior teaching and student mentoring, an interest in contributing to the scholarly community at Batten and U.Va. through collaborations with research faculty, and a research focus with a developing publication record in scholarly, practitioner, and/or policy venues.
Built upon the strong foundation of one of the nation's top public universities, the Batten School combines rigorous training in public policy with a unique emphasis on the acquisition of leadership skills. The School currently offers an MPP degree and an undergraduate major in public policy and leadership. The Batten School’s SE@UVA center offers over a dozen courses to over 500 students each academic year and serves over 350 Social Entrepreneurship Minors.
