Summary: Leads our school-wide efforts towards becoming a truly inclusive community for all of our members. Responsible for formulating and implementing shared vision and impactful strategies to enhance sense of belonging for our students, colleagues, and alumni. Guides all of our programs, offices, and functions to optimize their processes towards our goals of inclusion, equity and diversity.
Leads efforts to continuously update our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) vision and strategy and communicate progress; partners with faculty colleagues, staff members, campus leaders, student leaders and external constituents to ensure our DEI plan aligns with the School of Business and WFU’s strategic plans
Facilitates collaborations within our school (among faculty, staff, students, alumni, board members, and corporate partners) and between the business school and university offices to provide advocacy and support for marginalized groups in our community
Partners with DEI-focused university-wide offices (e.g. Office of Diversity & Inclusion) and other resources (e.g. Center for Advancement of Teaching, Human Resources, corporate partners, and donors) to coordinate and resource our DEI initiatives
Leads a business school council of internal diversity advocates to continuously gain input about the lived experiences of our colleagues and modify our DEI strategy and plans accordingly
Guides our faculty affairs and administrative teams to ensure that our faculty and staff talent acquisition, retention and management processes are aligned with our DEI goals
Curates an impactful professional development plan for our faculty and staff to enhance our capacity to create an inclusive culture and leverage our diversity; works with faculty to foster the development of inclusive pedagogy and scholarship
Leads efforts to communicate (internally and externally) the importance of DEI to our school and advises and supports our leadership team on responding effectively to incidents that are inconsistent with our DEI values
Establishes and maintains a scorecard to measure key elements of our DEI strategy, including representational diversity, and works with school’s leadership team to align program, departmental and office goals with it
Continuously reviews our organizational practices, policies, processes and structures across all of our programs, centers and functions to identify needed improvements towards achieving our DEI goals
Organizes events and related initiatives to celebrate our diversity and contributions to our inclusiveness by colleagues
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Master’s degree plus 10 years’ leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally, courteously and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators
Visionary, evidence-based leadership that looks to the outside for inspiration
Experience in cultural change management
Conflict resolution skills -- ability to deal calmly and effectively with others, under sometimes stressful conditions
Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, one who takes initiative and who can work with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and records in accordance with state and federal laws and professional ethics; ability to manage and distribute information appropriately.
Prior leadership experience in academic environment preferred
Direct management of any relevant staff, and management of department budget(s)
