Organization Behavior, Organization Development and Change, Strategic Management
The Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow with a PhD in Organizational Behavior, Higher Education, or a related field. Research will be primarily focused on the nature of interdisciplinary centers, with an emphasis on how these centers can be structured, managed, and embedded within a university culture to best catalyze cross-department and cross-college collaboration.
The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to study and contribute to the design of a major institute as it takes shape, and will be encouraged to develop and test hypotheses through the Institute. It is expected that this will result in significant research contributions to organizational behavior, strategy, and higher education research. Examples of areas of research include:
Structural organization of interdisciplinary institutes (II), including consideration of the need for agility in dynamic academic environments
Integration of IIs into the organizational and operational structure of universities
Processes to define and guide Institute resource allocation and to determine strategic directions
Preferred use and design of interdisciplinary spaces
Methods for connecting undergraduates with interdisciplinary research
Pedagogical approaches to interdisciplinary teaching
The fellow will also be asked to assume some responsibilities related to the planning and development of the Institute, to meet its mission. In addition, the fellow will assist the director and associate director in organizing and managing Institute activities as needed. It is anticipated that these will be complementary to the fellow’s research and will aid her understanding and interaction with key Institute stakeholders.
Review of candidates for the positions will begin immediately and will continue until the position has been filled. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a letter (1 to 2 pages) indicating how your professional interests, experience, research goals, and education (including courses, dissertation and other research products) prepare you to meet the job description. Please send these documents to Greg Adelsberger, Interim Director of Finance and Operations, Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society is the centerpiece of the 150,000-square-foot integrated science and engineering facility that is slated to open in late 2021 and will usher in a new era of interdisciplinary collaboration and research at Boston College. The Institute will take an integrative approach to research and pedagogy, with initiatives designed to investigate complex global issues related to the environment, energy, and health from an interdisciplinary perspective.
