The newly formed Cyber Systems Department at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) is seeking applications from highly qualified candidates for a newly created position entitled the Nebraska Healthcare Collaborative Chair of Population Health. The Chair will fulfill an integrative role within the University of Nebraska providing leadership, strategic planning, and advocacy in an effort to advance population health research, interprofessional education, and collaborative practice. The position represents a unique partnership with the Nebraska Healthcare Collaborative, a division of Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NEHII), and the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). The Chair will work directly with the Chief Academic Program Officer of NEHII to establish an annual research agenda for population health, will oversee a budget and have access to a unique, comprehensive dataset designed to support this research agenda, and will serve on the Board of the Nebraska Healthcare Collaborative. It is envisioned that the Chair’s population health research agenda will draw from new approaches in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data visualization aimed at analyzing large scale social, economic, and progressive healthcare data and resulting in translational research and practical solutions to a wide variety of issues related to population health. In general, data science advocacy across many domains is an important part of the position, as the Chair’s leadership will play a critical role in the growth of data science at UNK. The Chair will be part of the Cyber Systems Department and will support the data science curriculum for UNK’s College of Business and Technology (CBT). Currently CBT has programs accredited by AACSB, ATMAE, and CIDA, with significant progress toward ABET accreditation as well.
The Chair will be responsible for the following: • Developing and maintaining close working relationships with all relevant University units, NEHII, and external stakeholders to ensure the development and implementation of quality interprofessional and population health education and research • Developing and supporting a strategic plan for population health • Leveraging existing internal expertise and activities, and nurturing new initiatives to further the population health research agenda and activities • Advocating for data science curricula across university disciplines • Fostering high quality personnel performance by hiring, supervising, and evaluating the performance of NEHII fellows, students, and staff • Overseeing reporting and research projects • Teaching (residential and online; undergraduate and graduate) and advancing the Cyber Systems Department’s vision of developing world class research and educational facilities as a value proposition for students, alumni, and the government /business communities in which it operates • Planning and controlling expenditures within budgetary constraints • Adjusting leadership style as needed to achieve results
Terminal degree in computation, data science, data analytics, population or public health, or equivalent, with a proven track record in public health research; • Successful record of leadership experience in population health as a current Associate or Full Professor; • Successful record of experience in computational approaches to large scale health-related data collection, analysis and interpretation of data focused on the Quadruple Aim (population health, cost of care, patient experience, and clinician wellness); • Successful record of experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and tracking progress against targets, and supporting projects from beginning to end • Evidence of strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills
Successful record of experience in health information research studies
Successful record of experience mentoring others in research from formation to dissemination
Successful record of leadership experience with interprofessional, interdisciplinary research teams
