Muskingum University invites applicants for Chair of the Department of Economics, Accounting, and Business. The Chair is responsible for providing academic leadership, fostering excellence in teaching and scholarship, and promoting the overall growth and development of the department within Muskingum University. The Chair will have teaching responsibilities and oversee the department's administrative, budgetary, and personnel matters, ensuring alignment with the University's mission and strategic goals. This is a renewable position with faculty rank at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership and Administration:
- Provide leadership to faculty and staff within the department.
- Develop and implement departmental goals and strategic plans in alignment with university objectives.
- Manage departmental resources, including budget oversight and allocation of funds.
- Oversee scheduling of classes, advising, and student support services.
- Teaching:
- Teach courses in Finance and Business Management
- Courses may include, Operations, Business Strategy, Corporate Finance, or Security Analysis and Portfolio Management
- Courses may vary depending upon the successful candidate’s credentials and research interests
- Curriculum Development and Assessment:
- Lead efforts in curriculum development, including new course proposals and revisions.
- Ensure academic programs meet accreditation standards and maintain high academic quality.
- Assist in monitoring and assessing student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Faculty Development and Evaluation:
- Support professional development opportunities for faculty, including mentoring and research support.
- Conduct regular evaluations of faculty performance and provide feedback for improvement.
- Encourage scholarly activity, research, and publications among department faculty.
- Student Engagement and Success:
- Advise students on academic and career-related matters.
- Collaborate with faculty and university administration to enhance student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Community and Professional Engagement:
- Foster relationships with alumni, industry professionals, and community stakeholders.
- Promote partnerships and internship opportunities for students.
- Represent the department and university at professional conferences and events.
- Key Partnerships:
- Partner with the Executive Director of Graduate Business and Applied Leadership to foster cooperation between our Master of Business Administration and Master of Applied Leadership and the EAB department to help recruit students to Muskingum’s graduate programs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- A doctoral degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution; master’s prepared candidates with significant relevant experience will also be considered
- Demonstrated record of teaching excellence, scholarly research, and service within higher education.
- Administrative experience, preferably in a leadership role within an academic department or program.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to fostering a collegial and collaborative environment.
- Experience with accreditation processes and standards relevant to business programs.
